Vibrant stripes and plush texture bring color and whimsy to this hand-knotted Gabbeh wool rug. The rug features alternating horizontal bands of bright gold, ruby red, and ocean blue with soft stippled color transitions throughout. The design draws on Gabbeh weaving traditions with a focus on pure color and subtle abrash shade variations. Pure wool tied over a durable cotton warp makes this striped Gabbeh rug thick, cozy, and ready for heavy daily traffic.

Individually woven by skilled artisans, each rug is a truly one-of-a-kind piece. This authentic craftsmanship results in a distinct work of art built to last for generations.

Construction: Hand-knotted from wool, selected for its resilience and its ability to hold rich color and definition across the pattern.

Care & Maintenance: Vacuum regularly using suction only, avoiding a rotating beater bar. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth, and rotate the rug periodically to distribute wear evenly. Professional cleaning is recommended to keep the pile looking its best.

Story Behind the Art: Gabbeh rugs were originally made by women from tribes in the south-west of Persia. Gabbeh literally means unclipped, a reference to the shagginess of the pile. Rustic simplicity and indeed a certain willfulness of design give the rugs an unaffected freshness which is most sought after, especially for use in modern decor. Original designs were very basic with only a limited number of decorative patterns, mostly geometric mix of objects resembling animals, humans (kids) or trees (abstracts), coarsely knotted with brightly colored wool. Tree designs crop up time and again in nomadic weaves. Their form is never standardized. Asymmetric and symmetric knots are often used in the same rug. But with their natural woolly texture, thickness, and extreme durability along with unique designs, they have enjoyed popularity through the ages. In modern era, Pakistan and India have emerged as popular producers of this nomadic flooring.
