A fine lattice of diamonds runs across the open gold field of this hand-knotted Indo Persian carpet, leaving enough empty ground for the pattern to breathe. The border does the heavy work, a deep wine red carrying large palmettes and scrolling arabesques in gold, olive green, and black. New Zealand wool with a silky sheen finish means the wide field is never flat, and the gold reads deep amber from one side of the room and pale honey from the other. The layout follows the court weavings of Persia and Mughal India, where an open field framed by an ornate border was the standard formal composition.

Individually woven by skilled artisans, each rug is a truly one-of-a-kind piece. This authentic craftsmanship results in a distinct work of art built to last for generations.

Care Rotate the rug once a year, particularly if one end sits in sunlight, since an open gold field will show fading before a busier pattern would. Vacuum weekly with suction only, and blot spills straight away rather than working them into the pile.

Construction Hand-knotted in New Zealand wool, chosen for its long staple and natural luster. A silky sheen finish is applied after weaving, laying the pile in a single direction so light travels across the open field.

Story Behind the Art: Indo Persian rugs (made in India) are a specific rug style that favors the weaving and design techniques of the authentic Persian rugs from Iran. The rugs retain the essence of the Persian rugs and produce identical themes and patterns consisting of beautifully designed medallions, niches, trees and figural motifs and all-over floral motifs. It was during the Mughal rule in India that the rug industry reached its zenith and came on its own as an art form. Tight weaving, silk like wool, bright, deep color range and realistic motifs became the defining feature of Indian rugs. It is this combination of exquisitely detailed and painstaking craftsmanship and masterful interplay of design elements that has earned Indian rugs age-defying allure and patronship defying borders and time.
