Oushak weavers are known for soft, aged color, and this distressed hand-knotted wool Oushak rug carries the washed, faded look of an old Persian carpet. Seen here is a central diamond medallion in sage green and ivory, framed by gray florals that fade into the ground and a wide ivory border of leaves and rosettes. The tiny leaves stay crisp even though the colors look gently aged. This distressed antique reproduction rug has a dense wool pile that springs back after foot traffic.
Individually woven by skilled artisans, each rug is a truly one-of-a-kind piece. This authentic craftsmanship results in a distinct work of art built to last for generations.
Construction: Hand-knotted from wool, selected for its resilience and its ability to hold rich color and definition across the pattern.
Care & Maintenance: Vacuum regularly using suction only, avoiding a rotating beater bar. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth, and rotate the rug periodically to distribute wear evenly. Professional cleaning is recommended to keep the pile looking its best.

Story Behind the Art: The distressed rug grew out of the trade in worn antiques. Old Persian and Anatolian pieces, thinned by generations of footsteps, became sought after for their faded colour and uneven surface, and weavers in Turkey, India and Afghanistan began to produce new rugs that carried the same character from the start. The rug is hand-knotted in the usual way, then sheared low, washed with stone or sun-dried to soften the dyes, and in some workshops lightly abraded so that the foundation shows through in places. The result is a rug with the quiet, settled look of a piece that has lived in a room for a hundred years, while the knots underneath are new and the wool has its full strength ahead of it.
