Tiny trees and flowers grow across an amber-gold trellis on this hand-knotted New Zealand wool Agra rug. Seen here, the rust and black motifs repeat in a small, fine pattern, and a cream-gold border frames it neatly. The antique finish makes the dyes look warm and slightly glowing. A traditional Agra rug with a dense, pet and kid friendly pile.

Individually woven by skilled artisans, each rug is a truly one-of-a-kind piece. This authentic craftsmanship results in a distinct work of art built to last for generations.

Construction: Hand-knotted from New Zealand wool, prized for its long, resilient fiber and the natural sheen it brings to the pile.

Care & Maintenance: Vacuum regularly using suction only, avoiding a rotating beater bar. Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth, and rotate the rug periodically to distribute wear evenly. Professional cleaning is recommended to keep the pile looking its best.

Story Behind the Art: The Indian rug industry reached its artistic peak during the Mughal era, particularly under Emperor Akbar, who established weaving centers in Agra, Delhi, and Lahore in the late 16th century. Initially influenced by Persian styles, these early rugs gradually evolved their own distinct visual language by the 17th century. Indian weavers began incorporating tighter knotting, silk-like wool, rich color palettes, and lifelike motifsÑelements that would come to define the Indian rug aesthetic. This fusion of intricate craftsmanship and original design has given Indian rugs a timeless appeal and a global following. Among them, Agra rugs stand out for blending the grandeur of Persian tradition with unique Indian creativity. Known for their floral tendrils, angular vines, scrolling leaves, and large, finely detailed blossoms framed by bold borders, Agra rugs favor all-over patterns that radiate elegance and complexity.
