Story Behind the Art:Hand-knotted rugs form one of Pakistan’s most important cottage industries, dating back to the 11th century during Mughal rule. Pakistani artisans are renowned for their technical skill and ability to reproduce classic Persian motifs, including guls, medallions, paisleys, traceries, and geometric designs. Pak Persian rugs are particularly valued for their high knot density, often reaching 16×18 knots per inch, resulting in approximately 288–300 KPSI. This dense construction makes them exceptionally durable and well suited for high-traffic areas. Initially developed to meet global demand following reduced Iranian exports in the 1970s, Pak Persian rugs remain highly sought after for their craftsmanship, durability, and wide range of design choices.
