Story Behind the Art: Indo-Kashan rugs are sophisticated Indian-made tributes to the legendary carpets of Kashan, Iran, whose origins date back to the opulent Safavid courts of the 16th century. Today, Indo-Kashans are woven in prominent Indian centers such as Jaipur and Bhadohi, where master artisans reinterpret royal Persian designs for modern interiors. Widely regarded as among the most classic and formal Oriental rugs, Indo-Kashans commonly follow the iconic Medallion and Corner layout, featuring a central diamond medallion surrounded by dense floral vines, palmettes, and arabesques. Some variations display the Shah Abbas all-over floral field without a central medallion. These rugs are hand-knotted at approximately 150–250 knots per square inch with 100% wool piles on cotton foundations. Higher-end examples often use premium New Zealand wool and occasional silk highlights to enhance sheen and depth.
