Story Behind the Art: Sarouk rugs originate from the historic weaving districts of Arak and the Farahan plains of central Iran, regions internationally celebrated for producing some of the most elegant Persian carpets ever woven. During the nineteenth century, Sarouk rugs were known for their intricate all-over Herati and Gul Hennai patterns executed with dense asymmetric knotting on durable cotton foundations. Influenced by the refined grandeur of Tabriz carpets, Sarouk artisans later embraced more formal floral medallion compositions filled with graceful botanical detail and balanced symmetry. In the years following World War I, Sarouk weaving evolved once again with the introduction of spacious open-field layouts decorated with detached floral bouquets and flowing vine work, a style that quickly became highly sought after throughout Europe and North America. Hand knotted using premium wool and natural vegetable dyes, Sarouk rugs remain admired for their luxurious pile, luminous coloration, timeless floral artistry, and enduring decorative sophistication.
