Story Behind the Art: Renowned for their technical excellence and elaborate artistry, Kerman rugs originate from the historic city of Kerman in southeastern Iran. This region has been a prominent center of workshop weaving since the Safavid dynasty (1501–1732). Traditional Kerman rug designs often feature floral or architectural themes framed by ornate borders and anchored by a central medallion. Additional patterns include garden scenes, vase designs, Shah Abbasi medallion-and-corner layouts, boteh motifs, tree-of-life imagery, hunting scenes, and all-over florals or stripes. Celebrated for their fine weave, intricate detailing, and extraordinary color range, Kerman rugs can take over a year to complete and frequently incorporate 15 to 30 distinct colors.
