Built around four large hexagonal medallions in deep burgundy, this hand knotted Kurdish Bidjar runner showcases the remarkable durability and tribal geometry that have made Bidjar weaving traditions highly respected among Persian rug collectors. The medallions descend vertically across a warm camel field, each one outlined in navy and filled with angular tribal motifs rendered in ivory, orange, and charcoal. Unlike many densely patterned tribal runners, the camel field surrounding the medallions remains relatively open, allowing the powerful contrast between the warm ground and rich burgundy medallions to dominate visually. Smaller geometric connectors running along the center axis create directional flow and compositional continuity throughout the full length of the piece. The border incorporates geometric repeats in ivory, red, and navy framed by stepped tribal guards and additional rosette details. Bidjar rugs are especially prized for their dense compacted pile construction, making them among the most durable hand knotted Persian rugs ever produced. Vegetable dyed wool enhances the burgundy and camel tones with warmth and subtle tonal complexity that continues to improve naturally over time.

Bakshaish rugs originate from a small village within the Heriz region of northwestern Iran and are considered among the most artistically distinctive of all Persian tribal carpets. Woven by village and semi nomadic artisans during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these rugs are admired for their bold drawing, large scale medallions, and beautifully spontaneous compositions. Unlike more formal Persian carpets, Bakshaish rugs embrace irregularity and artistic freedom. Their oversized geometric medallions, stylized botanical forms, and expressive tribal motifs often appear with slight asymmetry that enhances the rugs’ authenticity and handmade charm. Naturally dyed wool creates soft earthy palettes featuring faded reds, muted blues, camel, ivory, sage, and rust tones enriched by beautiful abrash variation where colors shift subtly across the field. Combining tribal simplicity with remarkable decorative sophistication, Bakshaish rugs remain highly collectible examples of Persian village artistry.
